FARM CREDIT SERVICES OF HAWAII SCHOLARSHIP

If you are planning to major in an agricultural related field, please apply for this $1500 scholarship. A short essay on "What future does Tropical Agriculture have for the young" 500 words minimum is needed. You should also have a list of agriculturally related activities that you participated in (4-H, FFA etc) Application is available in the Transition Center. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2014.

FOODLAND SHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

This is a $2000 scholarship but everyone you know needs to shop at Foodland and designate Kea'au High School (school code 7552) as the school to receive their points. Applications are available in the transition center and completed apps due to Mrs. Yamamoto on 3/13/14.

CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

A $1000 scholarship to a Kea'au High School senior. Must be nominated by a staff memeber to apply. Deadline 2/28/14. Turn in completed application to Mrs. Yamamoto in the Transition Center.

HILO WOMAN'S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

$1000 Scholarship to a high school senior planning to attend UH Hilo or Hawaii Community college. Must have 3.0 GPA and above. Applications available in the Transition Center. Deadline 4/15/2014.

KIEWIT SCHOLARSHIP

(3) $2500 scholarship for students planning to major in engineering, architecture, construction management. Must have 3.0 gpa and above and accepted as a full time student to an accredited 4 year university. Will need 2 letters of recommendation and essay of no more than 500 words on why you should be considered for this scholarship. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2014. Applications available in HTC.

HMSA KAIMANA AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(21) $3000 SCHOLARSHIPS are available to a high school senior with a GPA of 2.75 and above and have played at least one league scantioned sport during at least one of your high school years. Must also have participated in community service projects. Application available in the transition center or online at hmsa.com/kaimana or www.sportshigh.com Deadline is February 14, 2014.

HFS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

(7) $2500 scholarships to current HFS member in good standing. Must have a 3.0 GPA and above and plan to attend 2 or 4 year college or university full time and have financial need. You will need to submit your official transcript, SAR, 2 letters of recommendation, personal statement (must be typewritten) and a resume. Deadline to apply is March 29, 2014.

Hawaii Education Association Scholarship

(2) $2000 scholarships to deserving high school senior who are HEA members, children or grandchildren of HEA members in good standing and have been members for at least one year. Application available in the Transition Center. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2014.

JACK AND OTOME MIYASHIRO SCHOLARSHIP

$2000 scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to attend an accredited two or four year college in Fall 2014. Must have involvement in Okinawan cultural activities. Essay: 1. What does it mean to be Okinawan or Okinawan-at-Heart? Elaborate on two Okinawan values and how these values have impacted your life. 2. Why do I deserve this scholarship? (Include personal background, goals and aspirations) Each essay should be a minimum of 1 page and maximum of 2 pages, double spaced in 12 point font. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2014. Application available in Transition Center.

GUSTAV AND FAIASO SOLIAI HANNEMANN LEADERSHIP AWARD

(2) $500 scholarship (1 male/1 female) Must be of Samoan ancestry with academic and leadership potential who will contribute to the progress and proseprity of Hawaii and our nation. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2014. Application is online at mufihannemann.com under scholarships.

HUI OKINAWA SCHOLARSHIP

$1000 scholarship to a qualifying high school student planning to attend college full time in Fall 2014. Must have involvement in Okinawan culture (taiko etc) and write essay "What does it mean to be Uchinanchu or Uchinanchu-at-Heart?" and "What does this scholarship mean to me?" Essay should be maximum 300 words and not more than two pages, double spaced in 12 point font. Deadline March 31, 2014. Application available in the Transition Center.

MONSANTO HAWAII LIFE SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP

(10) $1000 scholarship for students planning to major in life science (agriculture, agronomy,biology, botany, genetics, horticulture,crop science and soil science). Deadline to apply is 4/1/14. Application available in the Transition Center or online at www.MonsantoHawaii.com

HPM BARNEY S. FUJIMOTO SCHOLARSHIP

There is a $1000 scholarship available to a high school student who intends to pursue a career in the animation related field. You must attend an accredited school and demonstrate academic success. HAPA SCHOLARSHIP

The Hawaii Association of Public Accountants Scholarship is available to Big Island High School seniors who are planning to pursue a career in accounting. A $1000 scholarship is available to students planning to enroll full time in a four-year degree program and a $750 scholarship is available to those planning to enroll in a two-year accounting degree program in the fall. Applications are available in the Transition Center or can be downloaded at www.hawaiiassociationofpublicaccountants.org. Application deadline is March 28, 2014. NATIONAL INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

NIAAA scholarship available to student athletes who have achieved at least 2 of the following: A. Minimum of B+ average B. Rank in top 25% of class C. Scored 24 and higher on ACT or 1500 on SAT (reading, math and writing) Participated in at least 2 sports for at least 2 years and earned at least 1 varsity letter in each of the 2 sports. Essay required: How high school athletics has impacted my life. Deadline is 2/28/14. Email application to blgaison@ksbe.edu. HAWAII ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION AND DANCE

If you are interested in the field of teaching Health, PE, Dance or Recreational Leadership, there is a $750 scholarship from HAHPERD. You may download the form at www.hahperd.org or get one from the Transition Center. Deadline is February 15, 2014. To be eligible, you must have been in a Hawaii High School for a minimum of two years and be accepted to a college or university with health, pe, recreation or dance programs and be a full time student. You must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is renewable.

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is free to fill out at www.fafsa.gov. If a website asks for payment, then you are on the wrong website. You will need: ~ Your social security number ~ Your parents social security number ~ Your drivers license number (if applicable) ~ Your alien registration number (if you are not a US citizen) ~ Federal tax information or tax returns, including IRS W-2 information for you if you worked and for your parents if you are a dependent student. ~ Records of untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, veterans non-education benefits ~ Information on savings and checking account balances, cash on hand You will also need to know your parents birthdates and the date they got married/divorced/separated. ~ You will need to get a pin number for yourself and one parent. If you have older siblings that applied for FAFSA or your parent(s) went to college and applied for FAFSA, they should already have a pin number which you will need. Be sure you keep your pin number written down in a safe place as you will need to do the FAFSA every year that you are in college. You will need your parents tax info (even if you do not live with them or get financial assistance from them) until you turn 24 or get married. UH SYSTEM COMMON SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are planning to attend any of the 10 UH campuses be sure you apply for their system scholarships. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2014. Go online to www.hawaii.edu/finaid/scholarships/system. If you need help or have questions, contact the UH System Financial Aid Office at scholars@hawaii.edu or 808 933-7601.

HAWAII COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Hey Seniors! Be sure to check out the Hawaii Community Foundation Scholarship. The deadline is February 20, 2014. However if you can complete the application by January 31 and submit it, the committee will look over your application and let you know if you are missing any documents. The personal essay should be 2 pages maximum or 1200 words. The questions you should cover in your essay are: ~ What are your reasons for attending college? ~ Why did you choose your course of study? ~ What career goals do you have? Include other information that will demonstrate that you are a worthy scholarship recipient. Describe any outstanding attributes and talents. www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/scholarships Also, everything must be submitted online so you will need to let your recommenders know that and also get your transcript be sent electronically. Don't wait till the last minute and stress yourself out. Don't forget to do your FAFSA also, because you need to submit your student aid report to them as well. Use your parent's 2012 tax return and when they complete their 2013, just go in and submit corrections to your fafsa. See Mrs. Yamamoto in the Transition Center if you need help.

US Air Force presentation - Thursday - January 16, 2014 - (pd. 4 - 9:30 am) in the Library. Grand Canyon University presentation - Friday - January 17, 2014 - pd. 2 and 4 in the library. ASVAB EXAM - Tuesday - February 11, 2014 - 8:00-11:30 in the library. Hawaii Community College Day - Wednesday - February 26, 2014 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at HawCC. Pick up permission form from the Transition Center and turn in asap - first come first serve. (Seniors have priority for this trip.) Bus and lunch being provided by HawCC.

VOLCANO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

If you live in the Volcano area (between Akatsuka Orchids and Golf Course subdivision) and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university, there is a $750 scholarship available. You must be planning to be a full time student, demonstrate academic achievement and participate in community service projects. Applications are available in the Transition Center. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2014.

BIG ISLAND FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP

If you are a member in good standing of the Big Island Federal Credit Union, there is a $1000 scholarship that you can apply for. Applications are available in the Transition Center. Deadline is February 28, 2014.
