FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is free to fill out at www.fafsa.gov. If a website asks for payment, then you are on the wrong website.
You will need:
~ Your social security number
~ Your parents social security number
~ Your drivers license number (if applicable)
~ Your alien registration number (if you are not a US citizen)
~ Federal tax information or tax returns, including IRS W-2 information for you if you worked and for your parents if you are a dependent student.
~ Records of untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, veterans non-education benefits
~ Information on savings and checking account balances, cash on hand
You will also need to know your parents birthdates and the date they got married/divorced/separated.
~ You will need to get a pin number for yourself and one parent. If you have older siblings that applied for FAFSA or your parent(s) went to college and applied for FAFSA, they should already have a pin number which you will need. Be sure you keep your pin number written down in a safe place as you will need to do the FAFSA every year that you are in college.
You will need your parents tax info (even if you do not live with them or get financial assistance from them) until you turn 24 or get married.
If you need help, see Mrs. Yamamoto in the Transition Center.
